Louis’ investigations into the Russian fossil fuels that fund and fuel the war in Ukraine were transformative. The findings he and his team uncovered had far-reaching consequences, resulting in changes in sanctions regimes and in the policies of major companies that are still being felt today. Louis has a talent for bringing together hard-hitting investigations with clear, compelling communications that resonate with decision-makers.

Investigative journalism and strategic communications

My work on the climate crisis, the fossil fuel industry, and the war in Ukraine have led the United Nations to change the rules at COP, generated bi-partisan legislation in the United States House of Representatives, and pushed big oil companies to divest from Russian assets.

My investigations bring together undercover methods, data analysis and source driven reporting. They have been condemned by the Azerbaijani parliament for using ‘intelligence agency tactics’ and by TotalEnergies for ‘’damaging the reputation of the company’'.

My writing and commentary have been published in the BBC, CNN, Reuters, Politico, The Times and The National and I’ve been interviewed by BBC Newsnight, NPR, the BBC World Service, DemocracyNow, Tortoise Media, and many other broadcasters.

Most recently, I was the Head of Fossil Fuel Investigations at Global Witness, a leading investigative group. My last story for Global Witness was an undercover investigation published with the BBC, which revealed COP29 officials facilitating fossil fuel deals for a fake investor.
